Wilfred "Bill" H. Hoffman, passed away on Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus in Rochester. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home in Rochester. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Rochester American Legion. Memorials are preferred to the or the Eagles Cancer Telethon. Wilfred Henry Hoffman was born on Jan. 1, 1931, in Haverhill Township, Olmsted County, to Alfred and Minnie (Muller) Hoffman. He attended Salem Corner's School. On March 13, 1953, Bill was drafted into the Army and was honorably discharged on Feb. 25, 1955. He took college courses in Minneapolis, Winona and Rochester. On Aug. 12, 1961, he married Margo Thomann in Iowa and they later divorced. Bill was employed by the Mayo Clinic section of engineering for more than 35 years until his retirement in 1995. In 1997, he moved to Arizona where he lived for more than 15 years until he returned home to Rochester. Bill enjoyed being active, especially hiking in Arizona. He was a technology enthusiast and was passionate about his grandchildren, politics, computers and support of veteran's organizations. Wilfred was well known for his sense of humor. Bill is survived by his ex-wife, Margo Hoffman, of Rochester; children, Michael (Luisa) Hoffman, of Los Angeles, Shari (Tom) Karls, of Reno, Nev., Todd (Jamie) Hoffman, of Mantorville, and Ann Hoffman, of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Derek Wilson and Julia Karls; step-grandchildren, Brian Swensen and Michelle Hill; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Leola Rud, of Byron; and several nieces and nephews.
