Wilfred L. Whitman, age 84, of North East, died on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at UPMC Hamot. He was born on June 9, 1932, in Erie, Pa., to the late Harry and Ethel (Menmecke) Whitman. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. Wilfred graduated Wesleyville High School in 1951 and Gannon College, earning a degree in Traffic Management. He was formerly employed as a traffic manager for Electric Materials in North East for 36 years, retiring in 1991. Wilfred was a member of the Erie Traffic Club and enjoyed building model airplanes and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Whitman; and sisters, Madeline Kramer and Karen Denning. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rose Rohman Whitman, whom he married December 12, 1957; daughters, April Hansard (John) of Port Orange, Fla. and Susan Whitman of North East; brothers, Donald Whitman of North East and Jerry Whitman (Kay) of Ripley, N.Y.; sisters, Irene Lawrence of Wesleyville, Gladys Stage of North East, and Sally Brown of Findley Lake, N.Y.; and grandchildren, A1C Eric Hansard (Rebecca) of Elgin Air Force Base and Erin Hansard of Port Orange, Fla.
