William A. Miller Jr.LANCASTER: William A. Miller Jr., 88, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at his home with family by his side. He was born on April 28, 1923 to the late William A. and Ethel (Clark) Miller Sr. Bill retired from Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation with 45 years of service, receiving the Senior Fellow award in 1984. He graduated from Lancaster High School and served in the
U.S. Coast Guard and was a member of the American Legion,
Elks Lodge and Disabled American Veterans. Bill served on the Lancaster City Council and was Chairman of the Board of Elections of Fairfield County. He was instrumental in the replacement of paper ballots in Fairfield County with the punch card voting system. Bill served on the Lancaster Zoning Board of Appeals 1972-1981, the Fairfield County Hospital Board of Trustees 1977-1981 and was an auxiliary Ohio State Highway Patrolman. He enjoyed many years of musical performance as a drummer with the local bands, Lancaster High School Band, Elks Marching Band, Lancaster Community Band, the Nostalgics, Circleville Pumpkin Show Band and the Adelphi Community Band. He was a volunteer usher for Ohio State Football for 20 years. Bill was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. He is survived by his daughters Li Ann (John) Carr and Doris Miller of Lancaster and Penny (Robert) Nihiser of Logan; brothers Clark (Dottie) Miller of Lancaster and James Miller of El Cajon, CA; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents William was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Helen T. (Rockey) Miller. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 28 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church with Fr. John Reade as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 27 from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at the SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME where an Elks service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
