William “Bill” A. RyanSept. 24, 1938 - Nov. 7, 2016SOUTH BEND - William A. Ryan, 78, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016, at Healthwin Specialized Care. He was born on September 24, 1938, in Paducah, Kentucky, to the late Emery A. and Lorene (Rule) Ryan. On April 22, 1961, Bill married Sylvia Bukowski in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, South Bend, Indiana. Bill is survived by his wife, Sylvia, and one daughter, Kelly Reygaert of South Bend; two sons, Dr. Todd Ryan of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Greg (Deanne) Ryan of Cave Creek, Arizona; and five grandchildren, Lynsie, Wade and Kellen Reygaert and Carli and Patrick Ryan. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, 2016, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., with a parish Rosary prayed at 3:30 p.m. in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 12, at 11:00 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Full military honors will be conducted at the conclusion of the Mass. Burial will take place at a later date at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. Bill and his family moved from Paducah, Kentucky, to South Bend when he was twelve years old. He graduated from Washington High School in 1956, and enlisted in the United States Navy. He served the community as policeman for seven years, was a pilot for Clyde Williams, in which he did aerial mapping, and also worked for the Bendix Corporation until its closing. He was then employed by the South Bend School Corporation, where he served in the maintenance department for 15 years. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 50, loved to vacation, and was an avid NASCAR and Notre Dame fan.
