THOMPSON, William A. (Age 86) Bill was born on January 20, 1930, in St. Ignatius, Montana, to Ignatius and Dorothy (Phillips) Thompson. He passed away peacefully on October 26, 2016, sur- rounded by loving family, in Spokane.After growing up in St. Ignatius, MT, Bill served in the Navy aboard the USS Boxer during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the Navy, Bill and Phyllis made Spokane their home. Bill was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Bill was a man of great faith, and his life embodied that faith through service to others. Bill remained active in his church, Mission Community Presbyterian Church, until its closing in 2012.Bill was preceded in death by the love of his life and his wife of 45 years, Phyllis, in 1998. Bill is survived by two children, Wendy Thompson, Spokane, and Mark (Cheryle) Thompson, St. Ignatius, MT; two grandchildren, Jordan Thompson, Polson, MT, and Christine Thompson, Polson, MT; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Fernen, Spokane; an aunt, Jean Ellis, Spokane; several cousins, including Connie Newcomer, Spokane; numerous nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Shadle Park Presbyterian Church, 5508 N. Alberta St., Spokane.The family would like to extend its gratitude to Hospice of Spokane for helping to make Bill's final days here peaceful for him and his family and friends.Family suggests that memorials be made to the Mission Community Outreach Center or the Union Gospel Mission.
