MOORE, William "Bill" AlbertWilliam (Bill) Albert Moore passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016. He was born on March 23, 1926 in Lexington, Mississippi to James Herbert Moore and Catherine Sample Moore. He attended Lexington, Mississippi public schools and graduated from Lexington High School. After high school, Bill served in the
U.S. Navy during
World War II and attended Holmes Junior College, Mississippi State University, and the
University of Texas. Bill started his professional work for the Lewis Grocery Company in Lexington, Mississippi. He was employed by the Quaker Oats Company in Mississippi for two years and then transferred to Texas. He married Mary Lucille (Lucy) Oaks of Cleveland, Mississippi on June 20, 1954 and they settled in Austin, Texas. He would later head up the Austin field office for the State Comptroller's office. He retired from the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. Bill enjoyed watching golf, UT football, and UT basketball. Bill and Lucy enjoyed many happy years of traveling with dear and longtime friends, as well as enjoying the company of friends in Austin. Bill enjoyed reading and in his retirement years he took up painting, mainly of scenes related to their travels. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, Ms. Martha Virginia Moore and Ms. Katherine (Kitty) Sample Moore, both of Memphis, Tennessee and his beloved young daughter, Kathy. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years and dearest friend, Mrs. Lucy Moore of Austin, Texas and his daughter, Dr. Julie Ann Moore of Atlanta, Georgia. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. Memorial service will be held at the church at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 3 with visitation shortly thereafter in the foyer of the church. Memorials can be made to the Music Department of First Presbyterian Church, Austin, TX or to the Music Department of Central Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, GA.
