William "Bill" Allan TegelerUrbandaleWilliam "Bill' Allan Tegeler, 94, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from a heart attack. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren's Chapel with a rosary service at 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Basilica of St. John in Des Moines with burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.He was born on August 3, 1922 in Dyersville, IA, the son of Raymond and Clara (Claus) Tegeler. On graduation from high school, he enlisted in the
Army Air Corp. He served as a First Lieutenant, fighter pilot during
WWII. He flew many airplanes, most notably P-40s and P-38s, in the Aleutian Islands. Bill was an avid fisherman.He started his college education at Creighton University and graduated from Drake University. He married Janet Louise Smith in 1948 in Des Moines, IA. He owned and operated Tegeler's Amoco at 41st and Beaver for 49 years. Janet died on July 5, 1982. Bill married Janis Ann Braymen in 1984. Bill leaves three children, Jeffrey (Jane), Robert (Gretchen) and James (Nancy); five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren from his marriage to Janet. Bill leaves three step-children, Kim (Tim) Rockafellow, Vicki (Craig) Ross and Mike (Kenna) Johnson and seven step grandchildren with Janis.Memorial contributions may be directed to Basilica of St. John.
