William "Bill" Charles Turner, Sr. 87 of Yuma, Arizona passed away Monday, April 19, 2010 at Yuma Nursing Center following a brief illness. Bill, born on October 20, 1922 in Phillips, Wisconsin was the youngest of three siblings. In 1944, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Janet Margaret Olson and together they raised three wonderful children. Following his graduation from Phillips High School in 1940 Bill enlisted in the
Army Air Corps as a Aerial Engineer. After his discharge in 1949 Bill worked in Chicago prior to moving to Arizona. In 1952 Bill began a 33 year career with Arizona Public Service as a mechanic in charge of all vehicles in Prescott, Arizona. In 1954 Bill and Jean transferred to Yuma where Bill continued his work with APS. During the 1960's Bill also served as a Reserve Officer for the Arizona Highway Patrol. Upon his retirement from APS Bill worked at the Record Shop in Southgate Mall. After Jean retired in 1986, they traveled around the country visiting the grandchildren as they graduated from college and got married. When they weren't traveling Bill was kept busy around the house doing honey-do's for his wife Jean or helping his son, Bill with a multitude of projects that were always waiting for him. Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean Turner of Yuma; son, William (Stephany) Turner, Jr. of Yuma; daughter, Patricia (Richard) Dey of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Lindsey (Chris) DeMasi of New Jersey, Heather (Scott) Aivazian of Pennsylvania, Randi Eberly of Flagstaff; sisters, Marion Ortmayer of Wisconsin, Ethel Moquin of Wisconsin and 5 great grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William H. Turner; mother, Selma Schwirske Turner and daughter Bonnie Turner. Services for Bill will be held at Desert Lawn Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. After the service a reception will be held at the home of Bill and Stephany Tuner.
