William D. "Orb" Confer, 83, of Bradford, passed away on Wednesday (Nov. 9, 2016) at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.He was born on Oct. 1, 1933 in Bradford, a son of the late Charles and Bernice Spangler Confer.He was a 1953 graduate of the Bradford Area High School.On Aug. 8, 1953 in the Sawyer EUB Church, he married Shirley A. Weaver, who survives.He was a member of the Sawyer Evangelical Church, the Rew Volunteer Fire Department and the F&AM Lodge #333. He also volunteered as a driver for the local Red Cross and was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. He was a former instructor for the Hunter Safety Course. He was an avid hunter, an Indianapolis Colts and NASCAR fan, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and loved to feed the birds at his birdfeeder.He served in the U.S. Army stateside during the Korean War.He was employed by the former Kendall Witco refinery from 1969 until his retirement in 1996.In addition to his wife of 64 years, Shirley Confer of Bradford, he is also survived by one son, Dennis Confer of Bradford and one daughter, Linda (Richard) Kliment of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two granddaughters, Tracy Piller of Duke Center and Krista (Jay) Whitlow of Lewis Run; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Ackley and Jordan Piller, both of Duke Center, and Morgan, Mallory and Jake Whitlow, all of Lewis Run; one brother, Floyd (Carolyn) Confer of Bradford; one sister, June McGuire of Bradford and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one brother, Marion W. Confer and one sister, Nellie May Confer.Visitation will be held on Sunday at the Mascho Funeral Home Inc. from 9 to 11 a.m., with funeral services to immediately follow with the Rev. Barry Troyer, pastor of the Sawyer Evangelical Church, officiating.Burial and military honors will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to CARE for Children, P.O.
