William D. Shafer, 87, of Inverness, FL passed away November 22, 2016 under the care of Avante of Inverness. He was born on December 31, 1928 in Joliet, IL to the late Donald and Esther (Seber) Shafer. William was a
fireman for the Aurora, IL City Fire Dept. for 46 years from 1952 to 1998. He originally arrived in this area in 1955, then relocated to Manassas, VA. He relocated back to this area again in 1972, and was a member of the First Christian Church of Inverness. William enjoyed hunting, sometimes bagging 10 or 11 pheasants in a year; and loved the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Shafer. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dolores A. (Mast) Shafer. Other survivors include his son David M. Shafer and daughter Bonnie K. Shafer and her husband Tom, all of Yorkville, IL, Kevin Shafer and his wife Rhonda of Lee, IL,and Brian Shafer of Manassas, VA; sisters Dorothy Blenck and her husband Bill of Plainfield, IL, and Marjorie Aschenbrenner and her husband Robert of Joliet, IL; sister in law, Marilyn Allison of Port Richey, FL; and 6 grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for William is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30, 2:00 P.M. at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, with Dr. Ray Kelly of First Christian Church of Inverness officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
