Clumpner, William DuaneWilliam Duane "Bill" Clumpner (
World War II Veteran), 88, passed away on September 24, 2017 in Phoenix, AZ. He was born on November 27, 1928 in Oshkosh, WI to Roy and Antoinette (Van Laanen) Clumpner.Bill attended Iron Mountain High School in Iron Mountain, Michigan but interrupted his studies by enlisting in the Navy during World War II. After the war he returned to Iron Mountain and completed his secondary education. After graduation he worked at various jobs in Wisconsin including floor sales at J.C. Penney in Green Bay and as a laborer for his uncle at C.R. Meyer Construction in Oshkosh. In 1953 he was hired by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and spent 32 years with the company as a locomotive engineer and a traveling engineer, a job he loved. .On May 16, 1953 Bill married the love of his life: Laura Rose Martell of Menominee, Michigan. They would share an intense and passionate marriage until Laura's death on November 17, 1990.Bill enjoyed retirement in Wisconsin working on the lake cabin, swimming, fly fishing, hunting, vegetable gardening, and looking for the best deal on anything at garage sales (he volunteered at Goodwill for the employee discount). After retiring he discovered Arizona and eventually moved there for the sun and warmer weather and continued to enjoy swimming, sun tanning and looking for bargains. Once a week he could be found with his brother-in-law Terry, attending garage sales and finding the best senior discount lunch. In 2014 Bill felt very privileged to be included in the Badger Honor Flight for Veterans where he was flown to Washington, DC. For the ceremony.Bill is survived by his daughter, Michelle Zalec, Wilsonville, OR. and sons: Joseph (Deanna) Green Bay, WI, John (Yvonne)Little Suamico, WI, and Matthew (Shelly) Sun Prairie, WI. Twin sister Gretchen Clumpner, New York, NY sister- in- law Krista ( Jim, dec), Marquette, MI, sister Vicki (Terry) Fanning, Omaha, NE brother Roy (Marg) Ferndale, WAGrandchildren: Angel Clumpner, Green Bay, WI Frank Javes, Portland OR., Carson, Addison, Liam Clumpner, Sun Prairie, WI. and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and treasured friends.Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife of 35 years Laura, sister Catherine, brother Jim, and son- in- law, Paul Zalec.Please join the family For A Celebration of His Life on Saturday September 30th 2017, from 2pm-4pm at St. Brendan's, 234 S.
