Mr. William Eugene Jeremiah age 92, of Warrensville, died on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, NC.
Mr. Jeremiah was born on July 20, 1923 in Eminence, MO to Frances Halstead and Janie Viola Williams Jeremiah. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Karen Martin, and grandson, Eddie Hershner. Mr. Jeremiah was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church. William served in the US Army during World War II in Europe and the US. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, horseback riding, going out to eat, playing his guitar or dobro at Greenfield Campground or at nursing homes, spending time on the river, and telling stories. He loved to work and piddle on things and loved to joke and make people laugh. Mr. Jeremiah never met a stranger, his kind heart and infectious smile were well known to his friends and fellow church members. He frequently shared his faith and expressed how grateful to God he was.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Jefferson United Methodist Church by Rev. Karen Miller with military rites. The family received friends following the service at Jefferson United Methodist Church.
Mr. Jeremiah is survived by: his wife, Dorothy Jeremiah, son, Eugene Jeremiah of Pittsboro, daughter, Jan Hershner of Warrensville, son, Doug Steigerwald of CA, daughter, Robin Loughran of NY, "adopted" daughter Helemarie Reavis, 12 grandchildren, Adam, Alex, Ali Hershner, Keith and Jason Jeremiah, Stefanie Twist, Kate Leto, Ryan Loughran, Emily Steigerwald, Sara Tanaka, Denis and Darren Martin. Six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Doris Knockles, Vivian Powell and one brother, Glen Jeremiah also survive.
