Moist (Bill), 99, passed away peacefully at Kavanagh House on Wednesday August 2, 2017.Bill was born on June 27, 1918 in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of John H. and Mabel Brown Moist. Bill graduated from Ida Grove High School and Iowa State College in 1941with a degree in Journalism. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet in 1942 and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant upon graduation. He was stationed at Goodfellow Field at the time of his honorable discharge in January of 1946. He was united in marriage to Clarice Nelson Moist May 7, 1955 at First United Methodist Church in Des Moines. He was a self employed manufacturers representative selling signs, caps, jackets, and other promotions.He was a proud Iowa State University alumni, fan, and season ticket holder attending ISU football games until he was 97 years old. Bill was a member of Bloomfield United Methodist Church.Bill is survived and lovingly remembered by his son Brad and wife Ellen of Des Moines; daughter Julie and husband Mark Jesko of Suwanee, Georgia; grandchildren, Jason, Mollie, and Anthony Moist of Des Moines; Nathaniel Jesko of Chicago, IL and Sydney Jesko of Suwanee; a sister in law, Delores Dalbey of Windsor Heights; three nieces including Sara DeBrecht of Urbandale, Anne Bush of Greensburg, PA; Janet Hudson of Rector, PA; and a nephew, John Dalbey of West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his wife Clarice, sisters Mary, Ann, Margaret and his parents.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday September 1, 2017 at Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5930 Indianola Road, Des Moines with inurnment at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa at 2 p.m.His family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Kavanagh House for their endless care and support.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kavanagh House or Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
