William "Bill" Spruce
Bill Spruce, son of Elaine and Francis Spruce, passed away Friday morning, August
28, 2020 in Palm Bay, Florida at the age of 79. Bill is survived by his wife
Barbara (the love of his life) and his four sons and their spouses; Dana and
Melissa, Joe and Linda, Bobby and Jennifer and Michael and Jaime. A loving and
caring father, Bill also had six grandchildren; Jaime, Ryan, Bryan, Nicole,
Samantha and Lily.
A native of Miami, Florida, where Bill and Barbara met in 1964, Bill was a
standout athlete at Hialeah High School where he captained the baseball and
basketball teams. Affectionately known as “Goose” to his friends in high
school, Bill was also a member of the National Honor Society and graduated from
Hialeah in 1958. He attended Dade County Junior College where he played
basketball. Bill left college before graduating to help support his family. He
was the oldest of five siblings; Ethel, Charlie, Richard and Cathy.
After marrying Barbara on January 16, 1965, and the birth of their oldest son (Dana),
they moved to Massachusetts in 1966 where Barbara and her family were from.
Bill was like a second father and/or older brother to Barbara’s siblings; Joey,
Bobby, Lisa and Paul.
An incredibly hard worker, sometimes working more than one job to support his
family, Bill worked in several fields throughout his life. Notwithstanding his
working long hours, he insisted on volunteering with Barbara to support and, at
times, run the booster club at Foxborough High School where their four sons
participated in various sports. A proud father, Bill never missed a game.
Bill will be remembered by all who knew him as the kindest person they ever met. A
true family man, he never missed an opportunity to brag about his sons and
grandchildren.
Bill will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
