William Lee "Griff" Griffith, 79, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, passed away, Tuesday, October 18, 2016. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 22 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.Griff was born on August 12, 1937 in Danville, Virginia to Charlie and Cleivie Griffith. Griff graduated from George Washington High and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University prior to serving in the United States Marine Corps. After the Marine Corps, Griff spent the majority of his professional life working in retail management for Leggett, Belk and Cato corporations before venturing into business ownership and manufacturing shoes for several major retailers.Griff was an avid golfer and was a regular fixture at Rock Hill Country Club. His playing partners enjoyed Griff's competitive spirit, jovial demeanor and willingness to point out swing flaws, poor shot decisions or incorrect putting lines. He was also known as friend of the grounds crew when on several occasions he would offer them money to cut the grass somewhere else on the golf course during his round. Griff is survived by his wife Teresa; his sister Shirley; his children Jeff (Sherry), Suzanne (Jimmy), Lauri (Jeff) and Ashley (Matt); grandchildren Stephen, Brandon, Savana, Josh, Ryley, McKinley and KylerGriff was widely known for his boundless generosity and work with the less fortunate.
