William "Bill" Henry Vaughn JrFebruary 26, 1933 - October 28, 2013"If is meant to be, it starts with me."Bill passed away peacefully on Oct. 28, 2013 surrounded by his family after a short battle with Mesothelioma. Bill was born on Feb. 26, 1933 in Twin Falls, ID to William H. Vaughn Sr. and Lillian Ann (Wager) Vaughn. Bill was raised on the family farm in Hazelton, ID with his older sister, Virginia (Oscar) Finkelnburg Pocatello, ID, and younger sister, Joan (John) Davies Hailey, ID. After Bill's mother died, his father married Ruth Moore of Twin Falls. This union brought a stepsister, Elaine (Dick) Lycan, Portland, OR into the family. Bill graduated from Hazelton High School in 1951. He joined the
Army in 1953 and was on a ship headed for Korea when the
Korean war ended. Bill finished the rest of his tour stationed in Puson, Korea. He returned to the states and attended Idaho State University, graduating in 1960 with a BA of Architecture. He married Catherine M. Bauer on March 2, 1957. During the following years as his career grew so did his family. Bill and Cathy have 6 children: Teresa (Chuck) Bottroff of Wells, NV, Michael (Shannon) of Meridian, ID, Cindy (her husband, Gill is deceased) Vaughn Spencer of Pocatello, ID, William H. (Carmel) of Idaho Falls, ID, Mary Remer of Pocatello, ID, Lisa (Todd) Crockett of Nampa, ID. They have 21 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Bill was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community, a member of the Knights of Columbus, The Friends of Minidoka, AIA American Institute of Architects, Idaho State Board of Architecture Licensing, Idaho Hall of Fame, and NKA New Knowledge Adventures. Bill's favorite hobbies were wood carving, John Deere tractors, mountain men rendezvous, leather tooling, camping, fishing, hiking, and family reunions. Bill was one of the main team members that designed, chose the stones, helped with the planting, nurturing, and completion of the Kizuna Garden at the Pocatello Airport. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian, stepmother Ruth, his sister, Virginia and Oscar, and Gill Spencer. A Catholic Rosary service with viewing will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 30th at St. Anthony's Chapel, 527 North 7th Ave. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday Oct 31st at 1:00 PM at St Anthony's Church. Military rights will be provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. We are so thankful for all the help and loving care from all Bill's family, friends and our Encompass Hospice team during the last few months.
