GALAX - William Jackson Mitchell better known as Billy Mitchell, 87, of Galax passed away peacefully on March 15, 2016 at the Commonwealth Assisted Living in Hillsville. He was born on April 12, 1928 in Carroll County to Edgar Jackson and Guida Higgins Mitchell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Edith Blevins Mitchell; daughter Margaret Ann Mitchell and grandson Brent Jackson Mitchell. He is survived by his daughter Linda Richardson of Galax; son and daughter-in-law Roger and Barbara Mitchell of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren Susan Cline of Macon, Ga.; Blake Mitchell and his fiancée' Rachel Heape of Charlotte, N.C. and Braydon Mitchell of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters and brother-in-law Hilda Fielder of Galax; Doris and Donald Davis of Low Gap, N.C.; three nieces and a host of friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held April 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Gloria Lancaster Rhudy and the Rev. Ted Bartlett officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until time for the service at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
