Dr. William John McClintock, 77Dr. William John McClintock, 77, died peacefully at home in Cincinnati, Ohio, Thursday, August 28, 2014. Beloved husband, father, and friend, Bill's dedication, faith, wisdom, humor, and bass voice in the church choir will be sorely missed.A native of Monticello, he was born on Saturday, April 24, 1937, at the former Home Hospital in Lafayette, son of the late John E. "Mick" and Mary A. "Maisie" (Murray) McClintock, Bill played school football and basketball, and worked in Holder Pharmacy with his future wife, Carolyn Holder, daughter of civic leader and Indiana Board of Pharmacy member Ivan W. Holder and his wife Evelyn.After graduating in 1955 from Monticello High School, Bill served for four years in the U.S. Navy, stateside as a hospital corpsman second class. In the fall of 1959, he entered Purdue University. Marrying Carolyn in 1961, he went on to earn three degrees from the School of Pharmacy: Bachelor of Science, 1963; Master of Science, 1965; Doctor of Philosophy, 1967.He exhibited and was awarded for his leadership and academic achievements at Purdue. Earning his bachelors with distinction, he received three awards: the McKesson and Robbins gavel for service to the student chapter of the American Pharmaceutical Association; the Rexall mortar and pestle for outstanding achievement in the School of Pharmacy graduating class; the Kappa Epsilon selection as outstanding member of the School of Pharmacy graduating class. His advanced studies were funded by a National Science Career Development Grant and a National Institutes of Health Predoctoral Fellowship.Hired in 1967 by Richardson-Vicks as a senior pharmaceutical scientist, he and family moved to Hartsdale, New York. In 1969, the family spent six months in Paris, France, while Bill served as a visiting research and development scientist at Olay. Returning to the U.S., the family went on to live in White Plains, New York, and Southbury, Connecticut. Bill and Carolyn moved to Loveland, Ohio, in 1991, where they resided until 2012, when they moved to the Seasons Retirement Community in Cincinnati.At Vicks, before and after it was acquired by Procter & Gamble in 1985, Bill contributed to the research, development, and quality assurance of DayQuil and the full line of Vicks products, including VapoRub, NyQuil, Formula 44, Vicks cough drops, and more. He retired in 1998, after 32 years.Active in church and his community, Bill served as a Cub Scout den leader, a Presbyterian deacon and elder, and a beloved bass in the church choirs at Hitchcock Presbyterian, in Scarsdale, New York, and the United Church of Christ, in Southbury.Survivors include brothers Thom of Monticello, Indiana, and Steven of Zephyrhills, Florida; daughter Emily (McClintock) Lix, of Versailles, France; sons David and Joseph, of New York City; and granddaughters Katherine and Margaret. His wife, Carolyn, passed away in May 2013, just months before what would have been their 52nd anniversary.Following a private burial at Riverview Cemetery, family members will greet friends at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, at the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello. At 11:30 a.m., Pastor Tom Albaum will officiate a memorial service.Floral tributes and donations to the church are welcome.
