For one year following his graduation, Bill worked for Glove Underwear Company as a power machine cutter.
On March 10, 1943, he entered the U.S. Army and served for 2 ½ years, resulting in his being wounded three times and receiving a Purple Heart and two oak leaf clusters, before his honorable discharge on November 27, 1945. They made their home in Leesport, Pa., where they raised their son Kevin, and Bill worked as a meter reader for First Energy. After 31 years there, Bill retired in 1986.
The couple often traveled throughout the U.S., making sure to visit their son Kevin and his family every year.
In 2002, Bill and Betty moved once again, to Havre, to be near their son and his family. Betty passed away in 2008.
Bill enjoyed hunting, short trips to Atlantic City with Betty, traveling and watching sports, especially baseball, football and women's college basketball. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and his breakfasts with Gus Korb were the highlight of his week.
