William "Bill" LargeMars Hill - William (Bill) Meade Large, 98 of 461 Banjo Branch Road, Mars Hill, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the NC State Veterans Home in Black Mountain after a period of declining health.Bill was born on February 26, 1919 in Wyndale, VA to the late Walter Cook and Lucy Woods Large. Bill was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. Bill was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US and Japan in the US Army Signal Corp. He was a retired brick mason. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with his family.Bill married Elizabeth Ball Large on February 20, 1943 in Bristol Virginia. They were married 67 years prior to her death in February 2010. Survivors include daughter; Libby Rich (Ronald) of Mars Hill, Linda Dudley of Mt. Airy and son; John Large (Martha) of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Kelley Reese (Jeff), Karen Schuur (Mike), David Large (Carrie), Michael Cody (Tina), Matthew Cody (Lynn) Jason Dudley (Lauren) and 10 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held 4:00pm - 5:00pm Monday, September 25, 2017 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel at Blue Ridge Funeral Service with a graveside service immediately following at Mars Hill Cemetery with Brother Eddie Fox officiating.
