William Lee "Bill" Eastlandflower moundWilliam Lee "Bill" Eastland, 83, died Friday, July 21, 2017, in Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, from complications of Parkinson's Disease.He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Billie Nell (Ross) Eastland; his sons, Ross Eastland and wife Shay and Rae Eastland and wife Lisa; five grandchildren, Connor, Callie, Sarah, Kate and Aidan; his brother, Mike Eastland and wife Vicki; his sister, Rebecca Rodden and husband Tommy; and his nieces, nephews and many close friends.Bill was born on Oct. 9, 1933, in Knox City, Texas. The son of Rae Alton and Hazel Estelle Eastland, he lived all but a few years of his life in Texas. In his early years, Bill's family moved to several towns in West Texas, following his father's work with West Texas Utility Company before settling in Stamford, Texas.Bill graduated from Stamford High School in 1952. He attended Texas Tech University, graduating in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. While at Texas Tech, Bill was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Saddle Tramps and ROTC, where he made many lifelong friends.In 1957, Bill joined the United States Army and served at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas during the Korean War. He recalled fondly being sent to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and getting to visit New York City on his free time.Bill met his wife, Billie Nell Ross, in Pecos, Texas and soon afterwards they were married in 1962. After serving with the Army, Bill returned to Stamford, Texas with Billie Nell and opened a men's clothing store.Shortly after, his twin sons, Ross and Rae, were born and the family moved to El Paso, Texas where they lived until 1972. It was then they moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico. His boys always enjoyed weekly ski-days with their dad and those remain some of their best memories. The Eastland's moved back to El Paso, Texas in 1975.Later, Bill became a traveling salesman for Lorraine Lingerie Company where he made his career for the next 10 years. This job was the perfect combination for Bill, allowing him to meet people and drive all over the Southwest. Often during the summers, Bill would bring the family along on extended road trips across Texas, New Mexico and Arizona building many great family memories. In the 1984, after their sons graduated high school, Bill and Billie Nell moved to Pecos, Texas, living there for about six years, sharing time with many life-long friends and family before moving to San Angelo, Texas. They called San Angelo home for 25 wonderful years.They were active members of the community in San Angelo, particularly with Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Bill had a passion for travel, architecture, the symphony and was the repository of all family history. He loved the state of Texas, particularly the southwest corner. His favorite pastime, however, was throwing large parties. He thought nothing of hosting 80 people for a birthday or anniversary party! Bill always loved surprises and tried to make every birthday have an element of the unexpected.Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 3 S.
