STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. William "Gary" Lewis, age 67, passed away on November 10, 2016, at Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient facility in Statesboro, Ga. William was a Christian and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Brooklet, Ga. He was born on February 8, 1949, in Hazlehurst, Ga. He was the second of seven children of the late Rev. Timothy B. Lewis and Mrs. Lanie M. (Coley) Lewis. Gary was a certified corrections officer for many years and worked for the state prison system, employed by Costal Correctional. After leaving Costal Correctional, he worked for Effingham and Bulloch County Recreation departments. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Timothy B. and Lanie M. Lewis; three brothers, the Rev. Tim A. Lewis, Gene R. Lewis and Randy L. Lewis. Surviving are his loving wife of 13 years, Mrs. Dolly (Fail) Lewis; a stepdaughter, Marcia Fail of Stilson, Ga.; two stepsons, Sherman (Amanda) Girardeau of Statesboro, Ga.; and Travis (Anna) Girardeau of Brunswick, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren, Taylor Fail, Cody Girardeau, Ema Williams, Trent Girardeau, Jacob Girardeau, Hunter Girardeau, Cole Girardeau, Hope Girardeau, Alisha Hodges and Julie Girardeau; one sister, Omi (Robert) Brito of Guyton, Ga.; two brothers, Paul (Polly) Lewis of Statesboro, Ga.; and James (Elizabeth) Lewis of Savannah, Ga.; and his mother-in-law, Gladys Fail of Stilson. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Gary will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro, Ga. The funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Miracle officiating. Interment will be in the Immanuel Baptist Church Cemetery in Brooklet, Ga. Pallbearers will be Cody Girardeau, Clate Fail, Jeff Chaney, Johnny Walker, Jimmy Burkhardt and Larry Driggers. Honorary pallbearers will be his co-workers with the Statesboro-Bulloch County Recreation Department. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O.
