Mr. William Shelton Norris of Creston died on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson. He was 82.

Mr. Norris was born on Jan. 14, 1931 in Creston to Samuel Sylvanus and Nancy Jane Osborne Norris.

Mr. Norris was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Lavonne Pennington and VellaMae Kitts.

Mr. Norris served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War.

He enjoyed woodworking, was a sports fan, photography and spending time on the computer researching. Mr. Norris was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Norris is survived by his wife, Joyce Mildred Cunningham Norris; two daughters, Teresa Poole of Fort Mill, S.C., and Beverly Davis of Erwin; one son, William Samuel Norris of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Michael Lea. Inurnment followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer with military rites.
