William P. 'Booge' JonesBEATTYVILLE, KYWilliam Pryse "Booge" Jones of Lexington, KY died April 3, 2017. He was born on February 7, 1925 in Beattyville, KY to William Lewis and Lillie Strong Jones.He graduated from Lee County High School and attended the University of Kentucky where he joined Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and lettered as a pitcher for UK baseball. Later, he served on the board of K-Men and was K-Man of the year in 1980. During WWII, he served in the US Army, fighting in four of the five major battles of the European Theater. Booge continued the Ford dealership his father began in 1921, Booge Jones Ford. When the dealership closed after 70 years, it was the oldest Ford dealership in Kentucky. He served for many years on the Cincinnati District Ford Dealers Advertising Committee.He was past master of Proctor Lodge #231 F & AM, a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, a member of the Beattyville City Council, VFW, American Legion and chairman of the Lee County Development Board and Draft Board. In his 50+ years as a member of the Kiwanis Club, he served as president and coached little league baseball and basketball for nine years. In 1958 Booge married the love of his life, Huda Bingham. After retirement, they moved to Washington, DC, Naples, FL and Lexington, KY. Until age 90, Booge enjoyed many hours playing tennis and bridge at Naples Bath and Tennis Club and The Vineyards.He is survived by his wife Huda, his daughter Lita Dyer Jones (Warren) Wright of Gatlinburg, TN and son Thomas Pryse (Amy) Jones of Beattyville. Two grandsons: William Bingham (Lauren) Wright of Morgantown, WV and Thomas Walker Jones of Beattyville.He was preceded in death by his son George Parnell "Pick" Jones, his parents and his younger brothers Elliott, John Paul and William Lewis, Jr.The funeral will be conducted by Rev. Rick Isaacs of Beattyville Church of the Nazarene and Rev. Ken Ward of the Beattyville Christian Church.In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the George "Pick" Jones Memorial Fund which helps children in need. Donations may be sent to the Beattyville Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 212, Beattyville, KY 41311.Arrangements are being handled by the Newnam Funeral Home. Visitation is Wednesday, April 5 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be at 11:00 on Thursday, April 6 at Newnam Funeral Home with burial in Riverview Cemetery.
