RACINE - William Passavant Roth, 90, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Wheaton Franciscan Ascension Medical Center. William was born on December 31, 1925 in LaCrosse WI, the son of the late Rev Samuel H and Georgiana (Frederick) Roth. Upon graduation from Neenah High School in Neenah WI William was drafted into the Marine Corps. He served as Corporal during WWI on Tinian Island, where he guarded the Enola Gay. William attended Carthage College on the GI Bill and graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, followed by a Master of Arts degree in keyboard. William served as Minister of Music at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago in during his early years of marriage to Carol (Otterbein) Roth. With four children in tow, the family returned to Carthage College in Carthage IL, where Bill became Professor of Music and Conductor of the Carthage College Choir, the country's second oldest touring college choir. Along with the relocation of the college in 1962, Bill and Carol moved the family to Kenosha WI. William led the choir on its first European tour in the 1960's and accomplished several tours throughout the United States in the 1960's. William was a gifted musician, both in performance on piano and pipe organ and in music education, teaching exemplary students on organ and piano at his Racine home and at Carthage College. He designed the three-story Trakker organ at the Siebert Chapel. He performed several organ concerts while on tour throughout Europe and the United States. William retired from his position as Professor of Music after 38 years of service to Carthage. He also retired from 50 years of service as Minister of Music, Grace Lutheran Church, Kenosha WI. Survivors include many nieces and nephews, sister Naomi (James) Bryant, brother Rev John Roth, sons Marcus Frederick (Vickie) Roth and Christopher William Roth, daughter Holly Levine, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth (Dick) Hines, brothers Louis Roth and Samuel Roth, wife Carol Otterbein Roth and daughter Gayle Carol Roth. Visitation will be held Monday October 24 from 4 to 6 pm at Kenosha Funeral Services, 8226 Sheridan Road, Kenosha. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 25 at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W 6th ST Racine WI with visitation from 10 to 11 am and services at 11 am. Internment service will be held on Tuesday October 25 at 2 pm at Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Administration Cemetery, 2131 Spring St, Union Grove.
