Bill Pohll, who passed away on Nov. 21, 2016, was born on Jan. 29, 1927, in Klamath Falls, Ore., to Walter Martin Chester and Mearle Lillian (Smith) Pohll. The family soon moved to Chiloquin, Ore., and Bill graduated in 1944 from Chiloquin High School and then worked in the woods until 1945 when he joined the Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Oregon State University, graduating in 1951. He returned to his roots and began a teaching career at Bly High School, then moving to Merrill. He married Joyce Davis in 1953 and they had their son, Stacey Pohll. In 1957, he returned to Oregon State University for his master's degree and then returned to Bly as the principal. Bill continued as an administrator, serving as principal at Chiloquin High School, then Henley Junior High School, retiring in 1985. He met Mary J. Thompson and they married on Aug. 22, 1992, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Following their marriage, Bill became active in Mary's Bed & Breakfast, enjoying meeting and talking to the guests who came there from all over the world. Bill and Mary extended this love of international experiences through many cruises, especially enjoying the Mediterranean. Bill loved hunting and fishing with his brothers and other family members; he especially loved visiting his son in Alaska, traveling there every year. In 2012, he and his wife Mary moved to Longview, Wash., where he enjoyed volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul and was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary; son and daughter-in-law, Stacey and Kathi Pohll of Anchorage, Alaska; step-children, Jimmy Camarata of California, Sam Camarata of Parker, Ariz., Joseph Camarata of Kelso, Wash., and Patti-Marie ter Horst of Camas, Wash.; grandchildren, Rachel and Riley Pohll; seven step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Bob Wampler of Chiloquin; brother-in-law, Curt Davis; and sister-in-law, Deanna Lucas. He was preceded in death by his first wife and siblings, Norman, George, Lewis and Elene Planchon. A mass will be celebrated in Klamath Falls on Dec. 10, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens.
