William R. McLaughlin, 89, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center. He was born on June 22, 1927, in Erie, son of the late William J. and Mary Ann (Scheloske) McLaughlin. Bill was a graduate of Academy High School, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and he continued his education at Gannon College and Texas A&M University with a Master's Degree in Math and Science, working as an Educator and Assistant Principal for the Erie School District. He was a member of St. George Church. Bill enjoyed travelling, camping, golfing, playing cards (especially Pinochle), and most of all spending time with his family and his grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Russell. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Schellang) McLaughlin; children, Tim McLaughlin (Julie) of Erie, Tom McLaughlin (Loretta) of Wake Forest, N.C., Kathy Marsh of Erie, Kris Connelly (Pete) of Erie, and Mike McLaughlin (Heather) of Erie; grandchildren, Jen, Matt and Peyton McLaughlin, Melissa Marsh, Jaimie Parmenter, Clay Parmenter, Tyler Connelly and Connor McLaughlin; great-grandchildren, Aviah and Kaylin; sisters, Audrey Kimball of Erie and Mary Jane McLaughlin of Erie; and several nieces and nephews. The McLaughlin family would like to express their gratitude to Forestview Nursing Center and Great Lakes Hospice for the tremendous care that Bill received during his stay there. Friends and family may call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street, at Greengarden Boulevard, on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:20 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. George Church at 10:00 a.m. Private burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
