William (Bill) S. Leggett Sr.William (Bill) S. Leggett Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 28, 2016. William, also known to some as Bill, Pop, Dad, or Chee-boy, was born on September 20, 1932 to Rhoda and William Leggett of Weybridge, Vermont. Now at rest, William reunites with the late love of his life, Hazel Bennett Leggett. He is survived by his children: Bonnie Hibbard, Bill Leggett Jr., Donna Varney, Jeff Leggett and Kim Barone, and their spouses Rob Hibbard, Barb Leggett, Robert Varney, Kelly Leggett, and Russell Barone. William had several brothers and sisters, late siblings: Kenneth, Arnold, and Donald Leggett and surviving siblings: Jacklyn Haight, Armand, Paul, and Larry Leggett, Pat Liberty, and beloved baby sister, Darlene Charland. "Pop" leaves behind many adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mim and Pop also leave behind their much loved Pomeranian, Shadow. Bill gave 30 years of service to the Army National Guard and 33 years of service as a lineman with Green Mountain Power. Bill met Hazel at a dance. They married and over the next 62 years together, a beautiful life was created. It was a life so many will continue to remember and benefit from because they taught us all the meaning of family and kindness and love. Bill loved his family and anyone who knew him knows this to be true. The most important pieces of his life involved his family. Bill enjoyed camping with his kids when they were young. He enjoyed gardening and puttering in his garage. He loved to play Cribbage and Canasta with friends and family. He loved to snowmobile with his sons and friends. He spent many fun weekends and hunting seasons at the family camp in Richford, Vermont. He enjoyed the Saratoga horse races and taking cruises to the Caribbean with his family. His Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren could count on Pop to be there in the crowd watching and supporting their sporting events. Bill also worked several years for his oldest son at Ballard's Corner Store and spent many weekends traveling to southern Vermont to attend the Pond Hill Ranch Rodeo where he loved to watch his youngest son, Jeff Leggett and grandson Connor Leggett, rope and ride. He loved cooking breakfast Christmas morning with his oldest daughter Bonnie and always looked to his daughter Donna for project help and company. Bill had a special bond with each of his children, making them all feel loved and individual. He was so handsome and always dressed sharp. Even the day he passed, he was found wearing a button down dress shirt, freshly ironed slacks with a belt, and dress shoes. He will be remembered as a man of incredible strength, gentle heart, good humor, strong work ethic, dedication, and kindness. Bill and Hazel Leggett are now at rest together, proudly looking down on the legacy they have left behind. A legacy their family will cherish and maintain close to their heart. A service will be held at the Federated Church in Williston Vermont at 2:00pm. A reception is following immediately after the service at the Catamount Country Club.A family burial service is to be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Legion and The Humane Society in his memory.
