Stafford, WilliamWilliam Stafford, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Albany Medical Center. He was born on June 12, 1942 in Afton, one of 12 children of the late Lindon and Edna (Martin) Stafford. He graduated from Bainbridge High School with the Class of 1961. He served his country in the US Army, stationed near Anchorage, Alaska. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Broome Community College. Bill retired from both Agway in Greene and Tractor Supply in Oneonta; he has also driven school bus for Afton Central School for 17 years. He was a collector of Civil War memorabilia and books. He enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch with his fellow bus drivers. His favorite place was his cabin on Melondy Hill where he spent many hours on the porch with Katie, his 11 year old dachshund. He also loved acting; as a member of Afton Community Theater he participated in several plays including Oklahoma, Miracle on 34th Street, and a Christmas Carol to name a few. Bill also took great pride in his manicured lawn and flowers.Bill will be missed by: his beloved wife of 49 years, Patricia (Bolster) Stafford of Afton; sister, Doris Clark of Vestal; brother, Glenn Stafford of Oneonta; many nieces and nephews and special Army friends, Ron Curry of Oregon and Paul Roy of Maine. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by eight brothers: Dale, Don, Leon, Fred, Jim, Richard, Frankie and Bobbie; and his sister, Shirley Inman. Friends may call from 12:00-2:00pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will begin at 2:00pm with Rev. Maryann Palmetier of Hope Church officiating. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery, Afton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill's memory may be directed to a local animal shelter.
