William T. "Maypo" Bowers, IIIAge 72, passed away on August 5, 2017 in Wilmington, DE after a long illness.Maypo was born on February 21, 1945 in Wilmington, DE. After owning and operating S&C Liquors in Wilmington, he went to work for the State of Delaware, employed by the Red Clay School District for over 20 years. Maypo was a fun family man and a loving father. He was deeply involved (sometimes too much!) in his sons' sports, especially baseball at Brandywine Little League and Mt. Pleasant High School. As a young man, Maypo enjoyed dancing on Jerry Blavat's Discophonic Scene TV show, and continued to keep in touch with "The Geator With The Heater" throughout the years. It was Jerry who gave him the nickname "Maypo" which stuck until his last day! His family and friends will always remember him as a wild, fun-loving, out-spoken, "never know what to expect" kind of guy.Maypo is survived by his wife, Debbie, of 45 years; his sons, Scott (Ashley) and Chad (Amy); grandchildren, Callie, Preston and Bryce. He was anxiously awaiting the birth of Chad and Amy's first child in November. Maypo is also survived by his sister, Nancy Brannock; brother, Leslie Bowers; and along with many cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, William Thomas Bowers, Jr.; his mother, Alice Montgomery; and his loving grandparents who raised him, Katharine and William Bowers. The family would like to thank Fresenius Kidney Care and Compassionate Care Hospice. Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Schoenberg Memorial Chapel, 519 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Maypo's life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Richard Gevurtz Scholarship Fund, c/o Albert Einstein Academy, 101 Garden of Eden Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. SCHOENBERG MEMORIAL CHAPEL
