William Wayne Thompson Sr., 63, of Bardstown, died Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Robley Rex VA Hospital in Louisville. He was born on Dec. 14, 1952, to the late William Ruben Thompson and Elizabeth Ann Howard Thompson Shipp. He was a self employed contractor, a veteran of United States Army, a member and past president of Eagles Post 2173 and of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by twins, Vanessa and Tim Thompson; and a brother, James Curtis Shipp.Survivors include his wife, Betty Louise Sauer Thompson; his children, William W. Thompson II, Tiffany Nicole Thompson, John P. Thompson, Gerald W. Zirnheld and Ammie Davis; a sister, Vickie Shipp; brothers, Jerry, Randy, Johnny and Steve Thompson, and Charles, Kenny and Gary Shipp; 18 grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Maurice Hayes, OFM, Conv., officiating. Interment will be in Bardstown Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, in Bardstown. Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
