Will was born on October 10, 1930 in Westfield New Jersey to Alice Withington Rooke and Robert Levi Rooke. He had two siblings, a brother Robert Charles Rooke of Morristown, NJ and a sister Dorothy Rooke McCulloch of Barrington, RI. He attended The Lawrenceville School and did his college preparatory work at the Culver Military Academy. Will graduated from Dartmouth College in 1952 and that same year married his beloved first wife, Anastasia Dickinson Payne. They were married for 55 years until her death in 2007. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation and served faithfully until he returned to Hanover to attend the Amos Tuck School of Business, graduating in 1956. By that time, he and his wife Stacy had been blessed with 2 of their 5 sons, William Jr and John Dickinson Rooke. They moved from Hanover after graduation to Madison, NJ where he joined the firm of Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith. In 1960, he and his wife Stacy, built a home in New Vernon, NJ where they resided for 45 years and raised five sons. He was a member of the New York Stock Exchange and worked on the floor for several years before relocating to Morristown, New Jersey where he shared an office with his brother, Bob, for 40 years. While in Morristown, he served on the Board of Trustees for Morristown Memorial Hospital (now Atlantic Health Systems) and later as its Chairman. Will also took a keen interest in the Morristown Beard School where three of his five sons received diplomas. He served on the Board of Morristown Beard and was instrumental in helping the school dramatically improve many of their facilities. Will and his family enjoyed sailing and that ultimately brought them to coast of Massachusetts and a private community called Nonquitt. He and his family fell in love with this small community, and built a second home there. He and his wife and children summered there for many years and developed many good friends and memories. His hobbies included golf, photography, skiing, tennis and flying. He was a member of The Morris County Golf Club which he joined in 1960 and remained a member until his death.He and his wife Stacy built a home in Desert Mountain, Arizona in the late 1990's moving there permanently in 2002. His wife passed away in 2007. He married Glady Green, a native of AZ, in 2010 and they resided in Paradise Valley, Arizona until his death. While in AZ he was a member of the Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation Board.Will and Stacy had five sons. William Withington Rooke, Jr (1953-2009), John Dickinson Rooke, Andrew Kreamer Rooke(Margie), Charles Cameron Rooke (Tammy) and Timothy Payne Rooke (Kristen), 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Natalie) and his sister Dorothy Ann (Sandy) McCulloch and many nieces and nephews. Will Rooke was a gentile, thoughtful and generous man who had time for everyone. Those who knew him during his years in New Jersey would agree that their memories of Will and Stacy would include smiles, many social gatherings, fun trips and friendship. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center at 475 South St. Morristown, NJ 07960 or the Morristown Beard School c/o Morristown Beard Fund 70 Whippany Road Morristown, NJ 07960. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of New Vernon at 4:00pm on September 7, 2017. His final resting place will be with his mother and father in Lewisburg, PA. A small service will be held in the Rooke Chapel on the campus of Bucknell University on September 8, 2017 followed by his committal shortly thereafter in the cemetary.
