This obituary is administered by:
Willis Martin "Marty" Kerr A Long Beach native, world traveler, and gregarious friend to all, Willis Martin "Marty" Kerr died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016. He was 63. Marty was born on July 11, 1953 in Seaside Memorial Hospital in Long Beach, the city he would call home most of his life. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School and Long Beach City College. He began his professional life at a young age, selling Christmas trees and delivering newspapers from the age of 14. He was a "balloon boy" at Disneyland, and played Dumbo the Elephant in the Christmas Parade there. He would go on to a career of international travel as a tour guide, touching all corners of the globe - his favorite cities to visit were Cairo, Egypt; Bangkok, Thailand; Kabul, Afghanistan; and Agra, India, home to the Taj Mahal. Marty was dedicated to volunteerism. He was a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, a "candy striper" volunteer at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, and a 15-year volunteer at the Aquarium of the Pacific. He served as the head volunteer at polling places in his neighborhoods for many years. He loved his family dearly and is survived by his mother, Dolores; siblings Mary, Margaret and John; siblings-in-law Jim and Jennifer; nieces Katherine, Natalie, Alexis and Jacqueline; nephews Sean, Ryan and Michael; close friends and family from across the earth; and his beloved cat Madeleine. In lieu of flowers, Marty's family asks that donations go to American Humane. Donations will temporarily be matched when made at www.americanhumane.org. Public services will be held Friday, Dec. 16, at Saint Matthews Catholic Church, 672 Temple Avenue, at 12 noon, followed by a reception at the Recreation Park Clubhouse, 5001 Deukmejian Drive. All are welcome. He will be buried in a private ceremony Saturday, Dec. 17 at All Souls Cemetery, 4400 Cherry Avenue, Long Beach. Please sign the guestbook at www.presstelegram.com/obits
