Wilma Board Young peacefully returned home to our heavenly father on March 28, 2020 in Cleveland, Ohio at the age of 86.

Wilma is survived by her children Adrian Taylor of Lorain, Ohio, Adelle Hannah of Petersburg, Virginia, Brian Young of Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, her devoted siblings; Charles Robert Board and Edward Board. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren; Camille Johnston, Ken Johnston, Charissa Cutter, Joseph Hannah, Camella Breaston, Nicole Reed, Jason Hannah, Hubert III Hannah, Matthew Hannah, Anthony Hannah, William Hannah and Samuel Hannah, 18 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

She is proceeded in death by her late husband Cornelius Bernard Young, her mother, Bessie Mae Board, her brothers Harry Board, Ira Board, Richard Board and sister, Jean Board.

Wilma was born on January 28, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio to Charles Board and Bessie Board. 

She went to John Carroll University and Notre Dame College finishing with a Degree in Education. Wilma started working at National City Bank as a bookkeeper and worked for Cook United as an accountant. 

Wilma and Cornelius officially met at an ice cream shop and formed a bond that turned into a relationship. Cornelius Young worked as a manager for several gas stations for the Standard Oil of Ohio, (SOHIO) now known as British Petroleum (BP). Wilma also help Cornelius with his gas station's business accounts.

The two married on January 11, 1951.They soon started a family, Adrian was the first born, then Adelle, and then Brian.

She was devoted wife and mother to her family. Wilma set out to teach her children to be good stewards in church, positive pillars in the community, that family is everything, being honest, and to have integrity. Her children remember her as being outspoken and a driven force to be reckoned with. Their mother also encouraged them to find their purpose and pursue their dreams and goals in life using the foundation of what they learned from being brought up in the church. 

Years later after her children finished school. Wilma returned to school to obtain a degree in education from Notre Dame CollegeAfter completing a degree in education, she worked as a substitute teacher in the Cleveland Public School District. Later she transferred to work in a childcare setting and retired in June of 1999.

Wilma was accomplished and the matriarch of the family. She was also a loving caregiver to her mother, Bessie and grandmother Wilma Thurman. Wilma was a social butterfly, generous, witty, and a spirited soul who was dedicated in spreading the gospel and having compassion and empathy for others. Wilma had a good life. She loved flowers, reading, sewing, travelling, holidays, and spending time entertaining family and friends. 

She loved planting flowers, reading, sewing, traveling, holidays, and she loved entertaining family and friends. Wilma also loved baking cherry nut square cake and apple cake to name a few but also enjoyed making homemade rolls.

Wilma attended Aldersgate's United Methodist Church in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. She was an individual who loved to teach and spread the Lord's word. She was passionate about prayer, fellowship, and not giving up in the midst of challenging times. Wilma was an active member and Sunday school teacher at the church.

Her favorite scripture was 2 Timothy 1-7 KJV.  "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and of a sound mind."

A funeral has not been scheduled since our nation is under quarantine. The family will be scheduling a time to remember and celebrate the life of Wilma Board-Young in the near future. But for now, the family has created an electronic form of the life and memory of our beloved mother, relative, and friend. All are welcome to comment in electronic form and share your experiences and memories of the matriarch of our family. 

The family would like to thank caregivers, Deborah Young, Eliza Bryant Village and their staff for their efforts care and dedication. Also, Western Reserve Hospice Care for their support.

Details: A funeral will not be scheduled since our nation is under quarantine. April 6, 2020 at 9:00am we ask that her family and friends to take a moment and say a silent prayer during this moment in time for her cremation.
