Wilma Swezey Wheeler, age 90, of Kanona, NY passed away on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 at Taylor Health Center in Bath.Wilma was born on May 21st, 1926 in Whitesville, NY. She was the youngest of three children born to Harry and Pearl Langdon Swezey. She spent her early years in Whitesville before the family moved to Osceola, PA. Wilma graduated from high school in Elkland, PA. She then went on to business school in Hornell, NY. She worked for various businesses in the southern tier, but was most proud of her service with the Department of Navy in Washington, DC shortly after the end of World War II. After returning home she met her husband, Milton Wheeler. The two were married September 27th, 1947. Wilma started her career as a full time mother to their seven children in Allentown, NY, before settling in Kanona in 1959. She was a long-time active member of the Kanona United Methodist Church where she served in many leadership roles. She was involved in the Willow Twig, an auxiliary of Ira Davenport Hospital. She also served as a Steuben County elections official for several decades. Wilma enjoyed spending her summers with family and friends at the cottage on Lake Nosbonsing, Ont. She was an avid Haverling sports fan throughout her life and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren's events. She is survived by her children: Robert K. (Freida) Wheeler of Bath, Nancy M. Arquiette (Robert Gressel) of Howard, Milton E. (Susan)Wheeler of Bath, LuAnn (Dick) Hargrave of Avoca, Jeff (Jill) Wheeler of Kennesaw, Ga. and Greg J. (LuAnne) Wheeler of Bath; 16 grandchildren; Amy Matis Orfanidis, Michelle Matis Spies, Danielle Wheeler Evans, Casey Wheeler, Shawn Wheeler, Jack Wheeler, Levi Wheeler, Jonathan Wheeler, Nicole Wheeler Zugelder, Maggie Wheeler Gilbert, Steve Wheeler, Katy Wheeler Eason, Nicholas Wheeler, Will Hubbard, Corey Wheeler and Brittany Wheeler McKerlie; along with twenty seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Milton W. Wheeler, her eldest son Scott (Tracy), her parents, sister Emmagene Saia and brother Harry Swezey. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, from 4:00 -7:00 pm at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 8th, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Kanona United Methodist Church with Reverend Alan Jones officiating.
