LIGONIER — Wilton L. Phares, 90, of Ligonier, died on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at North Ridge Village in Albion. He was born on Nov. 27, 1926, in Wawaka to the late Cecil and Frances (Ozier) Phares. On Dec. 18, 1948, at Cosperville Baptist Church, he married Ruby Keim. She preceded him in death on July 3, 2013. He was a lifetime area farmer and member of the Cosperville Baptist Church. He loved to travel, wintering in Florida with his wife for many years. Camping was another pastime he enjoyed. Survivors include sons, Steve (Paula) Phares of Albion, Dan (Kim) Phares of Ligonier and Doug Phares of Columbia City; daughter, Diane (Allen) Perlich of Albion; and a sister, Dorothy Smith of Salem, Oregon. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by grandchildren, Brooke and Grant; brother, Marvin; and sister, Wanda Knafel. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 6, 2016, at Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor James LaFollette will be officiating. Visitation will also be from 2-8 p.m. Monday Dec. 5, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Wright Cemetery, rural Albion.
