FREMONT — Worden "Bud" Keyes, age 85, of Fremont, Indiana, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on January 2, 1930 in Huntington, Indiana to William Howard and Velma Ellen (Fee) Keyes. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1949. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Hillsdale College and later received his Master's Degree in Education from Saint Francis College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He served in the
United States Navy during the
Korean War, and was a member of the Fremont American Legion Post 257, and also served on the American Legion honor guard. He attended Fremont United Methodist Church, and enjoyed playing golf and was a Detroit Tiger's fan. He retired in 1993 after 32 years as a history teacher at DeKalb Middle School in Auburn, Indiana. On May 5, 1995 he married Betty (Young), she survives. Survivors include his wife, Betty Keyes of Fremont, Indiana; three children, Lon Keyes of Fremont, Indiana, Beau (Julie) Keyes of Dexter, Michigan, Andra Land of Auburn, Indiana; four grandchildren, David Land of Fremont, Indiana, Adam Land of Chicago, Illinois, Katie Land of Auburn, Indiana, and Aidan Keyes of Dexter, Michigan; and a sister, June Crandall of Fremont, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sarah (Wirey) Keyes on February 20, 1990, his parents, a daughter, Shelley Clare Keyes, and a sister Lorna Knisley. Visitation hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Beams Funeral Home, with Paul Hoffmaster officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana, with military honors being conducted by members of the Fremont American Legion Cassel Post 257.
