Mr. Zebedee West was born on December 24, 1929 in Washington, NC, to the late Sadie B. West. On the evening of Tuesday, November 8, 2016 he was called home by his savior to an eternal rest.On August 12, 1957, Zebedee and the late Dorothy M West were joined in holy matrimony. They resided in Petersburg, VA, following many stations of duty stateside and abroad while Zebedee was enlisted in the military. Zebedee faithfully served his country in the U.S.
Army for 30 years, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in the Korean and
Vietnam wars, receiving multiple awards and citations to include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation medal and several Good Conduct medals. Zebedee was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Prince George, VA, where he served as a Trustee Emeritus.Zebedee leaves to cherish his loving memories two daughters, Carolyn Grissett of Petersburg, VA, and Portia West of Prince George, VA; five strong sons, Anthony West (Julie Fincher) of Charlotte, NC, Mark West (Elaina) of Phoenix, AZ, Geoffrey West (Tammy) of Petersburg, VA, Timothy West (Dianne) of Painted Post, NY, and Philip West (Nichelle) of Petersburg, VA; grandchildren, Stefan Grissett (whom he raised as his own son), Stephen Grissett, Brian Grissett, Lee Grissett, Mark Turpin, Alex Turpin, Portia E. West, Ebony West, Dionna West, James West, Justin West, Markus West, Markyle West; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; devoted cousin, Herman Davis (Jeanette); loyal friends and fellow soldiers, Claude Chalmers, Roscoe Eubanks Sr. and Monroe Phillips.Services for Mr. Zebedee West will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 4405 Prince George Drive, Prince George, Va., the Rev.
