Mrs. Zera M. Jones , age 93, passed away on July 28, 2020 in Youngstown, Ohio after a lengthy battle following a stroke. She was born July 16, 1927 in Marvel, Arkansas, a daughter of Ollie and Ida (Searcy) Gamble. She attended the Marvel City Schools before moving to Youngstown where she finished her education at Rayen High School. She served as a Certified Nursing Aide for over 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading the bible and spending time with her family members. Her biggest pride was being married, her son’s and being around her seven brothers, four sisters and over 50 nieces and nephews.

 

On May 29, 1948, she married the late Freeman Jones Jr. They were united for 67 years before his departing in October of 2015.

 

She is survived by her four sons, Donald F. Jones ( Yette ) of Forney, Texas; Dennis M. Jones ( Jolanda ) of Fort Worth, Texas; Deniso Jones of Dallas; and Dexter Jones of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers, Elihue Gamble of Cleveland, Ohio; George Gamble of St. Louis, Mo.; Isiah Gamble of East St. Louis, Ill; and Herman Gamble of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Beverly Bellamy of Garland, Texas; Velma Patrick of Indianapolis, Ind.; and Jeanette Spann of Garland, Texas; niece/daughters, Judy Quarles of Cincinnati, Ohio and Carol Rhone of Cleveland, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Zera M. Jones is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, L.C Gamble of Marvel, Arkansas; Oscar Gamble of Lincoln, Nebraska and Irvin Gamble of Marvel, Arkansas; one sister, Mattie Green Thomas of Youngstown, Ohio.
