It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Zita Pipersburgh, a loving mother, loyal wife, caring sister, aunt, and daughter of Alexie and Francis Barrow. Born on December 23, 1934, in Belize City, Zita attended Holy Redeemer and St. Mary’s schools. She met her husband, Gilroy Pipersburgh, and they were married in Belize before immigrating to the U.S. to join many of her family members, including her sisters: Jean, Sandra, Rhona, Yvonne, Loretta, Lena, Marilyn, Merlene, Illona and Janet, and her brothers, Steve, Francis and Raymond. Zita was predeceased by sisters: Gwendolyn, Agnes, Joyce, Elena, and brothers Gilbert and Francis.
Fluent in both Spanish and English, she felt at home in the Chicago area and enjoyed watching Spanish TV and Westerns. Always on the lookout for the jackpot, she loved scratch off games and chatting with her friends.
Zita worked at Sears and Goldblatt’s Department Stores in downtown Chicago and later became a dedicated housewife to raise her two sons, Cortez and Darius. She was loving, outgoing, and friendly, and everyone loved her. Zita will always be remembered for her vibrant personality, unwavering strength, and infectious smile. She touched the lives of many with her generosity and selflessness. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her. Zita’s legacy of compassion and grace will continue to live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. She brought joy and laughter into the lives of all who knew her during her time on Earth. Zita’s impact will be everlasting.
Zita Pipersburgh, a longtime resident of Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at the age of 90.
May she rest in peace, forever cherished in our memories.
