Alan Charles Bingham, age 61, of Tawas City passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital.Alan was born on Sept. 10, 1949, in Bay City to Charles and Helen (nee Stovel) Bingham. He was a graduate of Bay City John Glenn High School, class of 1967. After high school graduation, Alan enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served our country during the Vietnam Era. After his naval service, he became employed at the age of 21 through Consumers Power Company, where he worked for many years until his retirement. Most recently, he was stationed out of the Five Channels Dam Consumers Power office, where he was a dam supervisor. Alan will also be remembered for being a HAM radio operator, coaching Little League and pee-wee baseball in the Tawas Knothole Association, his love of fishing, boating and computers. In his younger years, Alan had the distinct honor of receiving the merit of being an Eagle Scout. He also had a passion for restoring classic cars, most notably his 1976 Corvette. Alan married his wife, Cheryl P. (nee Morrison) Bingham on Dec. 28, 1998, in Tawas City and she survives him. He is also survived by his three children, Andrea Lee Briner of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Kara Lyn Bingham (Jim Passage) of Bay City and Joshua Alan (Stephanie) Bingham of Midland; two grandsons, Charles James Briner and Zander Maxwell Bingham; his mother, Helen Bingham of Bay City; two brothers and one sister, Randy (Ronnie) Bingham of Linwood, Lori Bingham of Bay City and Mark (Jane) Bingham of Essexville; five nieces and nephews; four great-nieces and nephews; six cousins; and many friends. Alan was preceded in death by his father, Charles Bingham, in 2009; twin sisters; and his paternal grandparents, Leonard and Emma Bingham and Lawrence and Burdeen Stovel. Visitation for Alan was held Sunday, Jan 9. Funeral services took place on Monday, Jan. 10, at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City with military honors.
