Barbara Joan Raths, age 79, of Oscoda, formerly of Rochester Hills, passed away on Tuesday, June, 17 2014 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on Feb. 5, 1935 in Bay City to the late William and Cecille Schonherr (nee Glaza). Barbara married the love of her life, Floyd Raths, on May 8, 1954 at Our Lady of La Salette Parish in Berkley. She worked for the Birmingham school system as a secretary for many years, as well as St. Michaels Rectory Parish. Barbara was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was actively involved in Our Ladies Rosary Makers, the 3rd Order of St. Francis as a lay director, and was a Eucharist minister. Barbara volunteered for many organizations such as St. Vincent De Paul, the local food pantry and she delivered communion to those who were unable to attend church. She was an avid gardener, needlepointer and loved bird watching and baking. Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be missed by so many. She is survived by her husband, Floyd Raths; children, Daniel (Debbie) Raths, Sally Raths, Janet (Jack) Spencer, Thomas Raths and Michael Rath; grandchildren, Michelle (Craig) Dowling, Michael Raths, Christopher Raths, Jeffrey Raths, Theresa Raths, Joseph Raths, Sarah Raths, Jason Sobieck, Crystal (Josh) Markert, Sheree Jamrog, Stephen (Jessica) Raths, Ashley Curd, Hillary Raths and Matthew Raths; great grandchildren, Benjamin Ruehlen, Hailey Ruehlen, Connor Sobieck, Kayden Markert and Heidi Raths. A funeral mass was held Saturday, June 21 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda. Place of interment was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
