He was born on August 5, 1940, the son of Charlie Frank Hayes, Sr. and Clara Mae (Burgess) Hayes.Charlie was a 1958 graduate of Albion High School. He retired from Post Cereal in 1995 after over 30 years of service. He was formerly employed at the Battle Creek Veteran's Medical Center and Hayes Albion Foundry.Charlie is survived by his Wife of 18 years, Illia Kate (Crittenden) Hayes of Battle Creek, MI; Son, Tashawn Hayes of Battle Creek, MI; Daughters, Wanda (Timothy) Drain of Battle Creek, MI and Sharnell (Melvin) Patterson of Battle Creek, MI; 9 Grandchildren, Melvin, Timeya, Simone, Terran, Shalana, Shalena, Shauntia, Teyonna and Shardae; 16 Great Grandchildren, a Brother, William (Roberta) Hayes of Albion, MI; Sisters, Birdell Wells of Battle Creek, MI and Valerie Embry of Battle Creek, MI; Brother-in-Law, Al (Vernice) Crittenden of Battle Creek, MI; Special Friends, Brenda (Tim) Mendez, Brother Willie Crosky, Texiriel Gray and John and Fannie Drain. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his Parents, a Sister, Lula Travis, a Former Wife, Joanne (Jones) Hayes, former Mother-in-Law, Charlotte Jones and Mother-in-Law, Willie Mae Crittenden.Charlie enjoyed fishing, singing, car rides, cars, going to the movies, his dog's Manny and Sasha, going to church and especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Holy Light Missionary Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and a member of the Male Chorus, Men's Ministries and Pastor Aide.Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Thursday December 1, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.A funeral service will be held at Baxter Funeral and Cremation service, 375 W.
