Good afternoon, everyone. Today, we gather to honor the incredible life of my older brother, Daniel Jay Dandie-Wilkins, born on September 8, 1990, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Eugina Wilkins and Lennox Wilkins. At just four years old, Daniel moved to Highland Park, Michigan, where a Christmas gift from Uncle Derrick, the original Nintendo sparked his lifelong love for gaming.
Daniel was a man of simple joys. He had a knack for turning the ordinary into something special, whether it was enjoying his favorite foods like eggs, dry cereal, or Pop-Tarts, or sharing his passions for gaming, music, and anime. He taught himself how to code, built an impressive anime collection, and, true to his competitive spirit, became the king of DDR.
He excelled academically and professionally, earning his BFA in Game Design and rising to prominence in the gaming and music industries. In 2021, his talent was recognized with the Best Music in a Gameaward at the Spawnie Awards, with his hit song “Turn Me Up” touching countless hearts.
But Daniel’s greatest legacy wasn’t his achievements, it was his unwavering love for his family. As a brother, he gave the best advice and always had my back, as well as our younger brother James’. As an uncle, he brought joy to his nephew Kobe’s life, creating cherished memories through adventures and celebrations. And as a son, he was devoted to our mom, speaking to her every day and being her constant support.
Daniel had a warmth and kindness that drew everyone in. He was the person you could count on, the friend who listened, and the family member who loved unconditionally. He lived a life of purpose, inspiring us all with his dedication, creativity, and respect for everyone around him.
Though his time with us was far too brief, Daniel made every moment count. He was, in so many ways, the best of us. We will carry his memory in our hearts forever, grateful for the love, laughter, and lessons he gave us.
Daniel, thank you for being the extraordinary person you were. We love you, and we always will. Rest peacefully
