Dennis Carl Turbin of Oscoda, formerly of Flint, passed away at his home on Friday, July 20, 2012, age 65 years. Dennis was born on April 14, 1947 in Flint to Carl and Mabel (Loder) Turbin. After his high school graduation he enrolled at the University of Michigan where he took several courses of study. Dennis proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict from July of 1966 to July of 1968, receiving his honorable discharge from Fort Hood, Texas and earning the National Defense Service Medal and a Marksmanship in Rifle medal. In his younger years, Dennis achieved the distinguished honor of Eagle Scout. After his military service, he was employed by Buick Motor Company in Flint for 12 years. While in Flint, he was also a certified firefighter and paramedic for 12 years. Dennis then moved to Mesa, Ariz. where he worked for the Banner Health System for 24 years specializing in cardiac and pulmonary departments and coordinator of the emergency room. During his career in Mesa, he also served on the Mesa Fire Department for two years. He married his wife, Patty (nee Scott) Turbin, on Feb. 24, 2002 in Mesa, Arizona. Together, they later moved to the Oscoda area and became very involved with giving countless hours and efforts with the Tawas St. Joseph Hospital volunteer services. He also was a member of the Oscoda American Legion. Dennis is survived by his wife, Patty Turbin of Oscoda; three children, Kevin (JoAnne) Turbin of Waterford, Denise Turbin of Portland, Ore. and Sara (Tim) Jennings of Mesa, Ariz.; three step-children, Heather (Karl) Kowatch of Albertis, Pa., Laura (Ryan) Pankoe of Macungie, Pa. and William Whitney of Timonium, Md.; two step-grandchildren, Joshua and Jeffrey Pankoe; one sister, Mary (Larry) Phillips of Harrisville; and many cousins and dear friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mabel Turbin. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service with military honors will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Oscoda beach in the public park.
