Dorothy Charlotte (Gatzmyer) Hancock of Tawas City, formerly of Farmington Hills, passed away peacefully on Saturday Aug. 25, 2012 at Lakeview Manor in Tawas City. Dorothy was born on April 29, 1929 in Pontiac to George and Melinda Gatzmyer. She will always be remembered for being a loving and devoted housewife who stayed at home to raise her children. Dorothy truly loved spending time with her family and friends and playing bingo always brought excitement to her life. She married her husband, James Hancock in 1946. He has preceded her in death. Dorothy is also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, George and Minnie Gatzmyer. Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Ron (Patti) Hancock of Northville, Jim (Caryn) Hancock of Howell, Danny (Sue) Hancock of Fowlerville, Diane Winters (Barry) of Farmington Hills, Joyce (Rick) Spalter of West Bloomfield and Janet (Jim) Alvey of Tawas City; 22 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and one brother, Dale Gatzmyer of Waterford. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service and burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery will be held in her honor. Those wishing to do so may make a memorial donation in her honor to the Lakeview Manor Healthcare Center in Tawas City at 408 North Fifth Ave., Tawas City, MI 48763 and specifically note the Activities Department. Cremation arrangements are by Buresh Funeral Home of Tawas City.
