Dorothy L. Garrett, age 88, of Glennie passed away peacefully on Sunday May 1, 2011, at the AuSable Valley Home in Fairview. Dorothy was born on Feb. 25, 1922, in Niobrara, Neb., to Chris and Effie (nee Endicott) Wintz. Dorothy will always be remembered for her love of live and all children. She was very active at the Glennie United Methodist Church, where she played the organ and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Dorothy also truly enjoyed reading, writing letters and all kinds of crafts. She worked at the Curtis Township Library for many years as well. On Nov. 8, 1961, she married her loving husband, Maynard E. Garrett, in Creighton, Neb. Together, they celebrated 49 beautiful years of marriage. Maynard preceded her in death on March 30, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Cecil and Harold Wintz; and a sister, Mildred. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Valla Vee (Ralph) Buddemeyer of Belleville, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Jenna Buddemeyer of Wyoming, Austin Buddemeyer of Missouri and Wesley Buddemeyer of Illinois. Visitation is scheduled today (Wednesday) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. at Glennie United Methodist Church in Glennie with Pastor Donald J. Wojewski officiating. Interment will be in Glennie Cemetery.
