She attended school in Athens and graduated from Athens High School in 1947. On January 18, 1947, she married Leo Voss in Athens. He preceded her in death in 2012, after 65 years of marriage.Family was central to Dorothy's life. She enjoyed rearing four children and her role as homemaker. She was highly supportive of her children and had a strong interest in their activities. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose quiet faith helped her to weather life's more difficult circumstances. She often repeated the Serenity Prayer and extended grace to family no matter what happened. However, when her temper flared, it meant she was going to get her way.In 1973, after Dorothy and Leo's children were grown, the couple bought a home in Zephyrhills, FL, where they hosted large numbers of family and friends over the years. During the summer months, Dorothy worked at Ferree's Music Shop in Battle Creek to save up money for the Florida months. She and Leo liked to travel, golf and play cards together. Dorothy was a longtime member of VFW #5319 Auxiliary in Athens, where she participated on the traveling drill team. She was also an avid genealogist who went far and wide to many libraries for research purposes.Left to carry on Dorothy's legacy of family and fun are her four children: James (Linda) Voss of Versailles, KY, Larry (Shireen) Voss of Fulton, Roland Voss of Seneca, SC and Cynthia (Tom) Case of Union City; three siblings: Lloyd (Sue) Miller of Fulton; Donna (John) Perkins of Scotts and Arlene (Robert) Orchel of Fulton; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
