Edward P. WitzkeFort GratiotEdward P. Witzke, age 94, of Fort Gratiot died February 4, 2017, at the Blue Water Hospice Home after a brief illness. He was born on April 28, 1922, in Royal Oak.After serving in the Navy during
WWII, Ed started working at the Detroit Edison Company, where he was employed for nearly 40 years as a systems supervisor. He married Barbara Joan Couture on April 8, 1950 in West Branch. They resided in Port Huron from 1962 until 1978, and during that time were members of St. Mary Parish.After retirement Barb and Ed moved to the Gladwin/West Branch area (Sugar Springs). Ed was an avid golfer and they loved to travel, including spending many winters in Florida. They returned to the Port Huron area in 2014 to be closer to family. Ed enjoyed life to the fullest, never had a bad word to say about anyone, and his smile and laugh will never be forgotten.He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara; 3 sons, David Witzke, Rick Witzke and Michael (Mary Kay) Witzke; 2 daughters, Diane (Chuck) Cummings, and Mary Lou Major; 16 grandchildren, Lisa (Rod), Lesley (Jason), Lea Ann (Gregg), Lauralee (Chad), Scott (Rachel), Stacy (Jeff), Jennifer (Carien), Andy (Susan), Adam (Samantha), Derek, Diana, Matthew, Caroline, Harry, Jack, Sam; 23 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dana Witzke; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor; and brother, Don.The mass of the resurrection will take place on Friday, February 10 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Huron. The Rev. Fr. Lee Acervo will be officiating. Friends may visit with the family one-hour before mass at the church.Memorials may be made to the Blue Water Hospice Home.
