This obituary is administered by:
Eva "Joyce" Yanna, age 79, of Tawas City was called home to be with our Lord, on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010. She passed away peacefully with family by her side at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Joyce was born on Sept. 21, 1931, in Flint to the late Noel and Mae Burris (Arnot). She graduated in 1949 from Beecher High School in Flint. On May 27, 1950, she married the love of her life, Albert E. Yanna Sr. Joyce and Al spent 1951-1955 in Texas, as Al served in the U.S. Air Force. They lived in San Antonio, Del Rio and Amarillo, Texas, as well as Mississippi, where Joyce had always told stories of all the fun times they had and wonderful friends that they had made and still keep in close contact with them right up until this day. Joyce and Al moved back to Flint from 1955-1970, where Al worked for GM and, from 1955-1963, Joyce worked in the packaging and shipping department for Koegel Meats. In 1963, God blessed them with a son, Albert E. Yanna Jr., and in 1966, they were blessed with a daughter, Vickie Lynn. The Yanna family made their home in the Big Island Lake area in 1970. Joyce was a school bus driver for Tawas Area Schools from 1975-1983. Many of the kids referred to her as "Mrs. Yanna, the cool bus driver" as she was the first bus driver at Tawas with a radio on her bus. Joyce had many special friends who loved her; many of them lived in the same apartment building as her in Tawas City. She enjoyed playing bingo and making special occasional trips to the casinos for fun. Her grandchildren were her world and she loved spending time with them. She was very excited to have recently become a great-grandma just a few short weeks ago. Joyce was also a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Tawas City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Sr., who passed away in 1986; and her son, Al Jr., who passed away in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Noel and Mae Burris; and all of her brothers and sisters, Don, Bob, Dorothy, Doris, Lee and Ron. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Vickie Landon, and son-in-law, Charlie Landon, of Tawas City; her grandchildren, Heather Landon of Tawas City, Kurt Yanna of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Vanessa Landon-Timm and husband, Ryan Timm, of England and Samantha Yanna-Carlson of Bay City. She is also survived by Nicolas Palumbo, Elliot Carlson and Annabelle Carlson, all of whom Joyce loved and considered to be her grandchildren as well. Wendy (Leslie) Pinkerton and Melissa (King) Carlson were also very dear to Joyce, although they were past daughters-in-law, she always considered them, as well as their recent husbands, very much part of her family. Joyce is also survived by her new great-grandson, Matthew Allen Timm, who was just born into this world on Sept. 16, 2010. She also has two very special sisters-in-law, Audrey Burris of Big Island Lake and Wanda Burris of Mt. Morris. She has many nieces and nephews on both the Yanna and the Burris side who were all very dear to her as well. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 14, 2 p.m., at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tawas City with Pastor Jonathan Schnose officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the funeral. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a trust fund for Joyce's new great-grandson, Matthew Allen Timm. An on-line guest registry is available at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com. Funeral arrangements are by Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City.
